Frank Weston Images

Growing up in Colorado's awe-inspiring landscapes, I have always had a passion for nature. After 25 years as a geologist, striving to clean up the toxic legacy that threatens the sanctity and beauty of our environment, I turned to my true love, preserving and sharing nature's beauty. Resurrecting my childhood interest in photography, I spent several years teaching myself the fundamentals of photography and then honing those skills until I was able to create images that preserved the subtle nuances of nature's beauty. I strive to create images that are distinctive and artistic, utilizing ephemeral natural lighting and weather phenomena to achieve dramatic and emotional impact. There is a wondrous beauty in the world that we take for granted in our instant-access, fast-paced, high-tech, 24/7 struggle for survival in the new millennium. But it is seldom that we can take the time to enjoy our natural world. Being creatures of the natural world, cast into an unnatural environment, our spirits thirst for the simple scent of flowers, soft breeze caresses and pristine landscapes—images that conjure up the wonders of our childhood when life seemed to be focused on the simple joys.

I shoot primarily with a 6x7 medium format camera for fine art images and 35mm digital for other applications. I like 35mm for extreme closeups because of the magnifcation that it provides. Plus its small size is much easier to handle in really awkward positions that close-ups often require.

I am currently working on a book about Colorado's state parks and natural areas, Colorado State Parks and Natural Areas to be released by Westcliffe Publishers in the Fall, 2008.
